What to Expect from BHT
It’s important to understand that body hair is not the same as scalp hair:
- Body hair follicles are less dense and often shorter.
- A larger donor area may needed to achieve the same number of grafts.
- Growth from body hair is typically slower, finer, and less dense compared to scalp hair.
- Transplanted hair may exhibit a curlier or altered texture compared to the original hair, particularly when body hair is used as the donor source. This can also occur with scalp grafts. Patients may use wax or gel to style their hair.
- This means that 1,000 body hair grafts will not look identical to 1,000 scalp grafts.
However, for many patients, BHT is the only way to achieve meaningful coverage and improved density.
